Location: Remote with onsite presence in Turlock, CA 1-2 times a week.

About The Almond Alliance:
Established in 1980, the Almond Alliance is a critical non-profit trade association that represents a local and international network of almond processors, hullers/shellers, growers, and allied businesses.

The Almond Alliance is the leading authority in state and national policy, which impacts a $6b industry. The Almond Alliance represents Almond farmers and advocates for the global growth, innovation, and success of American almonds.

Position Overview:
The CEO will be the face of the Almond Alliance and play a central role in advocating for the almond industry. The ideal candidate has experience leveraging the expertise of a diverse and influential agricultural Board, industry affiliates, and government leaders. This role requires a proactive approach to managing key issues and streamlining approval processes to support the Almond Alliance's objectives and mission.

The primary objectives of this position are to advocate for the almond industry at the state and federal levels, lead a small team, and develop a strategic plan to increase membership and PAC contributions. This highly visible role will put you on a global platform, as a key representative of the almond industry, and offers generous compensation and benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advocacy and Policy Development:
    • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Almond Alliance.
    • Represent and advocate for the almond industry at the state and federal levels.
    • Develop proactive policy solutions to drive industry growth and innovation.
    • Leverage the expertise of the Almond Board of California and other stakeholders to influence legislative and regulatory matters.
  • Membership and PAC Growth:
    • Develop strategies to increase membership and PAC contributions.
    • Communicate the value of Almond Alliance membership to current and potential members.
    • Enhance member engagement through regular meetings, training offerings, and participation in industry events.
  • Stakeholder Management and Communication:
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with Board members, Almond Alliance staff, external consultants, and industry stakeholders.
    • Develop a proactive communication cadence to keep stakeholders informed and involved.
    • Streamline communication with the Board of Directors, and develop board packs highlighting key issues and agenda items.
  • Operational Leadership:
    • Oversee the daily operations of the Almond Alliance, ensuring the effective execution of the organization's mission and goals.
    • Manage a team of three full-time employees and coordinate with external support teams.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Deep understanding and passion for Californian agriculture. Almond industry experience is a bonus but not required.
  • Comprehensive understanding and interest in state and federal legislation and policy.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills with the ability to communicate the value of membership.
  • Proven experience working with and reporting to a board of directors.
  • Track record of team building and management skills with the ability to leverage the expertise of key stakeholders.
  • Ability to be onsite in Turlock 1-2 times a week and additional travel as needed.
