Controller

Key Details:

  • Partner with CEO and operations to implement process improvements and drive financial visibility
  • $140-160K base salary + bonus
  • Onsite role in the Greater Sacramento area, CA

The Controller should be a positive, detail-oriented person who has a strong background in accounting, financial reporting and ERP, ideally with agriculture and/or construction industry knowledge.
The role is responsible for leading and coaching the accounting team, maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records, managing internal controls, and delivering all financial reporting. In addition, this role is responsible for payroll and benefits, managing cashflow and working capital requirements, coordinating all internal and external audits, and ensuring compliance with all tax, financial, and other regulatory requirements.
The role will also partner with the CEO and operations teams to identify and implement process improvements, that drive visibility and transparency to financial performance to both the internal management team and to its external stake holders. This role will be responsible to ensure internal controls are aligned with the requirements of the equity ownership, as well as the development of KPI’s, reporting and forecasting.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage general accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable/billing, payroll and benefits and financial reporting.
  • The Controller will own the ERP (NetSuite) system, workflows and Masterfile management
  • Lead, mentor, and coach direct reports, and partner broadly in the organization
  • Lead month-end closing procedures, executing journal entries, and general ledger account reconciliations. Prepare month-end reports, conduct variance analysis, and re-classifications
  • Manage capex processes, including accounting entries, WIP and fixed asset reconciliation, and report preparation.
  • Prepare budget, forecasts and full-year reporting schedules, reports, and analysis
  • Prepare weekly operational reports (aging, capex, cash flow).
  • Manage inventory accounting, adjustments, reconciliations, reporting, and counts.
  • Develop and maintain accounting SOPs, ensuring team compliance.
  • Manage working capital for liquidity optimization and operational needs. Prepares short and long-term cash flow forecasts.
  • Manage internal and external audits, addresses findings, and ensures compliance.
  • Responsible for filing tax reports (income, property, sales/use)
  • Prepare reports for regulatory agencies and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate financial reporting and project profitability

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing, agricultural, or construction environment
  • Proficiency in preparing financial reporting
  • Experience with external audits.
  • Experience with ERP implementations and data organization
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal reporting and tax requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with Private Equity a plus
