Controller
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the accounting function of a large CPG business preparing for significant retail channel expansion.
Overview
The Controller is responsible for all areas relating to accounting and financial reporting for a large CPG business in the Greater Sacramento area. The business has existing distribution with industrial B2B and foodservice customers and is investing heavily in its retail segment.
The Controller will be responsible for identifying and implementing necessary process improvements to transactional workflows, budgeting and forecasting, cash management and CAPEX approval processes. You will train your corporate accounting team to proactively monitor accounting procedures to ensure the delivery of accurate and timely financial statements as the business continues to evolve.
You will have contact with domestic and international executive management, which requires strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills. As the Controller, you will be a key contributor in promoting a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
Responsibilities
- Oversee corporate accounting department, develop more efficient procedures and use of resources over month-end closing, day-to-day accounting, budgeting, forecasting and capital expenditures, while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Assess skills gaps within your team, provide hands-on training and development, regularly evaluate performance, hire and onboard new staff as needed, and motivate the team to support the Company’s growth goals.
- Proactively develop and implement new accounting policies and procedures to maintain compliance as the business continues to expand.
- Partner closely with the CFO and Corporate group to support their needs for transaction accounting, reporting, and balance sheet risk assessment.
- Supervise and manage external audits related to the annual financial statements to ensure compliance with company policies and US GAAP.
- Participate in special projects relating to treasury and cash management in addition to global process improvement initiatives.
- Performs other related and assigned duties, as necessary.
Requirements
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience within a manufacturing environment with multiple entities.
- Expertise in balance sheet and cash flow analysis, budgeting and forecasting, inventory and cost accounting.
- Experience delivering timely and accurate consolidated financial reports to senior management.
- Track record of enhancing accounting controls and mitigating risk as a business grows.
- Strong systems skills with experience optimizing a tier 1 ERP system.
- Experience leading an audit process across a multi-entity business.
- Treasury and cash management experience is not required but is a bonus.
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related. CMA or CPA preferred but not required.
Salary: $150-170K base + bonus + great benefits
